Dealing with Various Medical Issues

Hello, my name is Benny and this is my blog. Suffering from a medical issue or illness can really impact your quality of life. For many years, I had a hard time dealing with my medical problems. I was born with a condition which makes it very difficult for me to eat. This resulted in a number of problems. Thankfully, I have had some great doctors over the years who have made sure I had received the best treatment. I have learnt so much about dealing with a wide range of conditions that I decided I should share my knowledge here.

Why You Shouldn't Be Scared Of Prostate Cancer Surgery

Cancer is never a good thing to have, and much of modern medicine is dedicated to combatting this vicious and varied disease. Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, and one that has had a lot of research done around it regarding treatment methods, specifically relating to surgery. If you have had a prostate cancer surgery booked in then you are probably feeling quite nervous, which is totally normal. However, here are a few reasons why you should feel confident that your surgery will go well and help you get back to living your life the way you want to.

Success Rate Is High

When it comes to the success rate of surgical solutions to different cancers, prostate cancer surgery is very much towards the top end of the list. Studies show a disease-specific survival rate of between 90-98% over a 10-year period after prostate cancer surgery. If your doctor has decided that surgery is the best method of treatment, then that means they think you are physically strong enough to recover from the procedure which should give you all the confidence you need as they simply would not risk it if they thought it was even a small chance of problems.

Localised

Unlike a lot of other types of surgeries that operate in very close proximity to vital organs, prostate cancer surgery is relatively localised to a less life-threatening area of the body. While you still have important organs and veins in the area, it is less dangerous than say, operating near the heart, lungs or around a major artery. That means that complications during surgery are also low-risk, with the most severe (which are very rare) being infections or a little bit of additional bleeding. Most of the time the worst complication you have from prostate cancer surgery is a little bit of sickness from the anaesthesia after you wake up.

Not That Long

There are a few different types of prostate cancer surgery but in general, you can expect the procedure to take a few hours. The less time in surgery the better, and often patients only need to be monitored for one night after surgery before being released to rest and recuperate at home. That is a far less demanding recovery period than most other cancer surgeries, so there is much less need to be apprehensive. If you have been scheduled for prostate cancer surgery all you need to know is that complication rates are low, the training of the medical personnel in Australia is very high and the recovery period is far less than for other typical cancers, so rest assured you are in good hands.
